Celebrating Our Military Community
Annual Military and Veterans Ball
This formal event is an annual highlight within the community of UWM’s veteran and military service members. The ball features guest speakers, dinner and dancing. There’s also a silent auction to benefit charities with ties to military and veteran organizations.
Serving Those Who Served: Veterans Brunch
During Veterans Week, UWM and community leaders serve brunch to veterans who are studying or working at UWM, veterans in the local community and current service members. This buffet-style brunch is one of the ways UWM honors our veteran and military service members.
Military Graduation Ceremony
The military graduation ceremony is specifically for veterans and service members and features guest speakers and a reception. Veterans and service members are also recognized during UWM’s main commencement, where they receive red, white and blue honor cords.
Veterans Week Events
UWM hosts a week of events leading up to Veterans Day. Recent Veterans Week events have included Sisters in Service, where female veterans connect with each other, a Vet Success career networking event, various guest speakers and the VA Mobile Vet Center.
Project 22 MKE
Project 22 is a documentary about two veterans who ride motorcycles cross-country to raise awareness of the high rate of suicide among veterans. UWM continues this work with an annual event that includes a motorcycle ride, memorial service and walk/run.
Student Veterans of America
The UWM chapter of Student Veterans of America is a student organization that connects members with supportive resources, volunteer opportunities and meaningful community. UWM student veterans, active military, and their dependents and supporters are welcome to join.
